New Year: Clearings and Blessings

It is that time of year when we look to make change. We are either setting intentions, or goals, or making a list of things we want to work on. Most of us do this throughout the year, but many see the beginning of a new year as the kick starter!

We have a tradition in our household, to sweep off the porch in the new year. I have no idea where this started and it originates on both sides of my family and seeing that it is tradition, I tend to do it. But like many things, I add my own spin on it and turn it into a mini clearing and blessing.

Many of us clear and bless our homes, cars, work stations and “things.” For some of us, this too, is a tradition or ritual. But for others, clearings and blessings are not their thing and they look to the guidance of professionals. This is especially true when I hear there are problems or challenges presenting. For example, a house that remains for weeks/months on the market needing to be sold, or a clearing is needed after a fire or natural disaster that has happened in the space, or negative energies or business and financial losses, or deaths that occurred in or around the space. This may or may not include: displaced spirits, ghosts, entities, demons, gremlins, poltergeist, electrical disturbances or unhappy external forces that play havoc. Sometimes it is not “in” the space, or the space itself, but “around” the space or attached to people who use/live “in” the space or visit the space. This is where things get exciting! It’s the difference between clearing some energetic dust bunnies versus calling in the big industrial vaccumes to clean, clear and bless while removing layers of disturbing energies that haunt people and effect people and environments negatively.

It has been my expereince that clients know when they need to reach out for more professional support. I have been offering clearings and blessing services for over 18 years. My loving mentors began training me in 1996. Some of the years of trainings included Shamanic teachings from Lakota, Norse, German and other Native American tribes. I am respectful in my practice to the ways of these varied peoples. I’m also respectful in my practice to the unseen “Guides” who do 90% of the clearings and blessings and without my connection and relationships with my Guides I would not be able to do the work.

Briefly, let me share a few terms and situations over the years servicing clients:

Sites with ghosts: Most ghosts I have seen or bumped into are often looking for some assistance. Either they don’t know they are dead, or they are attached to possessing a host. They need some gentle assistance or sometimes more aggressive assistance. It is important to work with someone who can determine the difference and has good boundaries with non-ordinary reality.

Entities and demons: Demonic depossession of entities as seen in a Shamanic practice. Some people are sitting with entities, especially if they are drawn to addiction and not “in” their bodies much. When we are “out of body” a lot, our body is left for others to enter in. Depossession is the removal of entities. It sometimes is the issue with clients, rather then their physical space or environment being hindered, it is actually their body being a host to negative entities.

Gremlins: Like the movie these entities are mischievous, to down right havoc instigators. One time I had them in my car. I was heading in to downtown Seattle for a meeting. My son was with me. He was in middle school at the time. We parked the car on a street, facing up hill. It was a sunny day, late in the morning and I had gotten out of the car to pay the meter. I looked up the street and waved to a friend who was heading out for lunch. My son was getting ready to exit the car from the back seat, and out of no where he was flung out of the car and hit the pavement face down. Luckily he had cat like reactions and caught his fall so his face wasn’t hit. But there was no way to describe what happened. It was if he was “pushed” out of the car. My friend walking by saw it too! Intuitively I knew it was gremlins. My son and I cleaned and cleared them out of the car immediately. After that, we never had another problem.

Poltergeist: I usually don’t use this term, because it reminds me of the 1980’s movie. Or maybe because it is more European. It is a German word meaning, “noisy ghost,” or “noisy spirit.” My friend, a local psychic originally from Scotland, and I did a clearing and blessing for a client of mine. She had an Interior Design firm. She was having problems with non-ordinary beings turning her radio on full blast at night and setting her alarms. The alarm company was having to reset it frequently and once the Seattle Police Department was called. She was stressed out and needed professional help. We did the clearing and blessing and during the ceremony, my Scottish psychic friend referred to the spirits as “Poltergeist.” Maybe because of their attachments to the electronics! This was the blessing where at the end of the night when I was home, I looked down at my hand and I had a burn. An unexplained burn on my hand. Actually my boyfriend at the time first noticed it. He was a pastry chef and was well familiar with burns. Burns from energy… yes this can really happen.

Spirits of the dead: Another way of saying ghost or displaced spirit, or entities. I use them interchangeably depending on clients comfort levels. I have been called to clear and bless homes or buildings that were purchased or leased that had a death in them, or were previously a funeral home or had a tragic accident involving multiple deaths. It is a good idea to look for assistance in these types of clearings. It assists the living and the deceased. One of the most beautiful blessings I have had the honor of being a part of is the clearing and blessing of Bastyr University here in Kenmore, Washington. The historical site previously was Saint Edwards Seminary, then renamed Saint Thomas Seminary, later Saint Thomas Center. My mentor at the time organized and invited myself and 9 other Shamanic practioners to do the blessing on Easter Sunday, 2000. I bumped into the dead a few times there on campus, but the shift and release of those spirits was beautiful! The plant spirits in the gardens sang as the negative energy lifted and the entire premises was revitalized.

Land helping spirits: There was a time when I was living in West Seattle and had numerous clients there. I performed multiple clearings and blessings of private residences along the water. Many were beautiful maintained estates. It was my experience that the “helping land spirits” were very involved in the clearings and blessings. It is always a good idea to honor the spirits that show up at a clearing and blessing. Especially the permanent beings that tend to the land or environment.

If you are looking for assistance in a clearing and blessing of your home, work place, business, garden, or any other space, I would love to assist you. It is commonly known, one does not have to be “on site” to clear and bless a space. I have done numerous out of state residences, second homes or cabins that I do remotely by traveling in non-ordinary reality. Connect with me if you have questions or are curious about how it all works. Your inquiry and feedback is always welcome.

Happy New Year and happy clearings!
